About Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park
A Touch of Farm Life in the City
Situated in Springfield, Missouri, Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park spans a generous 207 acres of what was once the working land of the Wilson and Rutledge families. Since opening in 2007, this farm park connects urban living with rural traditions, offering a taste of farm life while showcasing Greene County's agricultural heritage.
Meet the Locals (The Furry and Feathered Ones)
Wander into the animal barns and you'll discover yourself among a cast of characters that includes friendly goats, woolly sheep, clucking chickens, gobbling turkeys, miniature horses, grunting pigs, and gentle cows. Many of these animals are quite friendly - especially if you've got treats to share.
Keep an eye out for the barn cats that call the farm home. These independent residents, including one named Noodles, often stop by to greet visitors.
Fancy a bit of fishing? The fishing pond is stocked with catfish, bass, and bluegill for catch-and-release adventures. At just $2 per person, it's an affordable way to enjoy some quiet time by the water. If you don't have gear, the gift shop offers equipment rentals and worms for purchase.
Nature's Playground
The landscape features a beautiful 20-acre native prairie, alongside pasture land and demonstration crops and gardens that change with the seasons.
The farm-themed playground features climbing structures and slides that children enjoy. Most of the equipment is excellent for children between 4 and 12 years old, but younger siblings can still find ways to join the fun.
For those looking to stretch their legs, a one-mile paved trail follows Wilson's Creek Greenway, offering a smooth path for walking, jogging, or biking. The trail doesn't just end at the park boundaries - it connects to the larger greenway system, inviting you to extend your journey if you're feeling adventurous.
Seasonal Celebrations
Year-round, the park comes alive with educational programs and special events. From Easter celebrations in spring to fishing days in summer, there's always something happening at the farm.
Fall brings the popular Harvest Festival where you can lose yourself in a corn maze, pick a great pumpkin, hop on a hayride, let the kids enjoy pony rides, or bounce away some energy in bounce houses.
When winter arrives, the Candy Cane Lane transforms the farm into a twinkling wonderland with a drive-through light display that's become a holiday tradition for many local families.
Stop by the visitor center and gift shop to grab some information, pick up a souvenir, or refuel with snacks and drinks. Planning a birthday? They've got packages that include crowd favorites like rides on the cow train and time in the bounce houses.
Farm Park for Everyone
Got a green thumb? Urban garden plots are available for rent, offering city dwellers a patch of earth to grow their own vegetables and flowers.
Scattered around the grounds, picnic areas with tables provide perfect spots to enjoy a packed lunch or snack. Some areas even feature fire pits and pavilions that offer welcome shade on sunny days.
Clean restrooms are conveniently located within the park - a detail that parents of young children will particularly appreciate.
And yes, your four-legged family members are welcome too! The park is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring them along on a leash, just make sure they're comfortable around farm animals.
Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park offers hands-on learning about farming practices and agricultural history, making it an educational experience for visitors of all ages.
