About the Location
A Piece of St. Louis Heritage
Dating back to 1912, Buder Park carries a meaningful bit of St. Louis history with it. Named after Susan Rassieur Buder, a German immigrant who made St. Louis her home, this green space was created because she wanted local kids to have a place to play and enjoy the outdoors. It's a small but significant part of her legacy to the city.
Finding Your Way
Located in the Gate District neighborhood, this cozy 2.31-acre park sits between Rutger, California, Hickory, and Ewing Avenues. One of its notable features is the elevated section that offers views of Downtown and Midtown St. Louis - something to check out if you're visiting for the first time.
The park is surrounded by a concrete retaining wall that's showing its age these days and could use some TLC. If you're looking for the action, head to the western side where most of the recreational facilities are concentrated, while the eastern portion offers a more open, relaxed field space.
What You Can Do Here
Though small, Buder Park packs in plenty of options for outdoor fun. You'll discover basketball courts and volleyball courts for the sporty types, plus playground equipment where kids can burn off energy.
When it's time to refuel, the picnic area provides a nice spot to enjoy lunch or an early dinner. The grounds are generally kept tidy, making it a pleasant place to spend some time with family or friends.
A Community Treasure
In recent years, the park has been getting some well-deserved attention. Local residents have teamed up with city officials to breathe new life into this neighborhood space, working to upgrade facilities and enhance what Buder Park offers to the community.
The result is a space that provides a break from urban life. While it's officially open from 6AM to 10PM daily, the evenings here offer an especially tranquil atmosphere if you're looking for a quiet moment in the city.
