Natural Setting

Stretching along the Yellowstone River in Billings, Montana, Two Moon Park encompasses 27 acres of natural tranquility. The park gets its name from a Northern Cheyenne chief who fought at the Battle of Little Bighorn - connecting local history with the natural setting.

As you wander through, you'll notice the landscape varies from open meadows to shady woodlands and peaceful riverfront spots. Recently planted apple trees and other new vegetation have added even more character to this already charming space.

Trails and Accessibility

The park's well-maintained walking trails meander through diverse environments, making it easy to immerse yourself in nature. Regardless of whether you're in the mood for a vigorous hike, a morning jog, or just a leisurely stroll, there's a path that fits your pace.

You'll discover mostly level trails meant for longer walks, but there are some short, steeper sections if you're up for a bit more challenge. While the main paths are clear enough to follow, a few more signs in certain areas wouldn't hurt - so keep your bearings as you explore.

Biking is especially popular here, with the trail network providing a great backdrop for recreational rides. The upper area features a paved trail for smoother journeys, while the lower section near the river has a more rugged gravel road for those seeking a bit more adventure.

Wildlife and Activities

River Access

Follow the trails down to the Yellowstone River for some truly spectacular views. The riverfront has become a favorite spot for rock hunting enthusiasts, with plenty of interesting specimens to be found along the shoreline.

During warmer months, some brave souls take a dip in the river - just know you're swimming at your own risk, and look for areas with calmer currents. While there's no boat ramp available, the access points to the water are still worth the trip down.

When nature calls in nature, you'll be relieved to find clean restrooms in the form of well-kept vault toilets around the park. If you're planning to make a day of it, several picnic areas dot the landscape, including a covered table in the upper section that provides welcome shelter on particularly sunny or rainy days.

The upper area also features a lovely overlook with river views and comfortable benches - excellent for catching your breath and soaking in the scenery. You can park in either the easily accessible upper lot or the more adventurous lower gravel lot, depending on which area of the park you plan to explore first.

Seasonal Enjoyment

Two Moon Park shines in every season, with a unique charm even in the winter months. In summer, the riverside areas become natural air conditioning, offering a cool escape from Montana's heat.
