About Trago Park in Lincoln
Trago Park is a neighborhood park located in Lincoln, Nebraska, situated at the intersection of North 22nd and U streets. The park covers an area of approximately 8.05 acres, providing a green space for local residents and visitors to enjoy.
One of the main attractions of Trago Park is the Trago Spraypark, a popular feature during the warmer months. The sprayground operates daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., typically open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. This water feature offers a refreshing way for children to cool off and have fun during the summer.
The park underwent renovations as part of the Antelope Valley Project, which included updates to the site's layout and amenities. These improvements were completed in 2008, enhancing the park's overall appeal and functionality for the community.
Trago Park also features a public art piece called "Tilted Donut #7" by sculptor Fletcher Benton. This artwork is located next to the Billy Wolff Trail on the west side of the park, south of the sprayground and basketball courts, adding a cultural element to the recreational space.
The park's location and history are significant, as it sits on property that was once part of Lincoln's predominantly African American neighborhood. This connection to the local community's heritage adds depth to the park's role in the area.
