About the Location
Summer Fun Season
Found in North Las Vegas, Walker Pool (formally known as Prentiss Walker Memorial Park and Pool) is a charming 3.42-acre public oasis that comes alive each summer. Part of the North Las Vegas park system, this seasonal escape welcomes visitors from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend - perfect timing for those scorching Nevada summers.
Cool Off in the Water
The pool here is definitely the star attraction. Open for weekend splashing from Friday to Sunday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., it offers a wonderful escape from the desert heat. What's nice about Walker is that it tends to be less crowded than other public pools nearby - a little peaceful pocket in the busy city. The facility shuts down before sunset for safety, so plan your visit accordingly.
If you're bringing little ones along, they'll love the splash pad with its playful water features - a great alternative for kids who might not be ready for the main pool yet.
Beyond the Pool
Walker isn't just about swimming. Thanks to the City's Mature Parks Project, the surrounding area has been thoughtfully redesigned to offer more bang for your visit.
Fancy a game of hoops? The basketball court awaits. Looking to enjoy a meal under the sky? Grab one of the picnic areas and fire up the barbecue grills (they're charcoal, so plan accordingly). The park's layout is particularly family-friendly, with playground equipment positioned near the picnic spots - meaning you can keep an eye on the kids while prepping those burgers.
The Vibe
What makes Walker special is its laid-back atmosphere. Unlike some of the busier parks in the area, this place maintains a certain tranquility that's hard to find. It's the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think while the kids play, or enjoy a conversation without shouting over crowds.
Practical Stuff
No need to worry about the basics - the park comes equipped with restroom facilities inside the pool area, and there's convenient off-street parking serving both the pool and playground areas. You won't have to trek across a massive lot with all your picnic supplies and pool gear, which is always a plus.
