Tucked away in Edison, New Jersey, Roosevelt Park is the oldest member of the Middlesex County Park System, dating all the way back to 1917. Spanning 217 acres of greenery, it's like stumbling upon a miniature version of NYC's Central Park - a refreshing escape from the surrounding development.

At the heart of Roosevelt Park lies an eight-acre lake stocked with fish by the State of New Jersey. On any given day, you'll spot folks casting lines or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll along the paved pathway circling the water. The lake doubles as a sanctuary for ducks and swans, adding a touch of natural tranquility to your visit.

Beyond the water, the park unfolds with sports fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, and miles of trails to explore. Tennis players particularly appreciate the multiple courts available - some even lit for those evening matches when you just can't call it quits before sunset.

Standing Out in the Landscape

Consider visiting the Veterans Memorial, a monument honoring county veterans that won the 39th Annual New Jersey Concrete Awards. It offers a quiet space for reflection amid the park's activity.

Art enthusiasts shouldn't miss the fountain sculpture called "Light Dispelling Darkness." Created by sculptor Waylande "Kid" Gregory back in 1936 as part of the Works Progress Administration, this piece adds a dash of cultural history to your park experience.

Gathering Under the Trees

Scattered within the park are numerous picnic groves complete with tables and grills. These spots are ideal for everything from impromptu lunches to planned family reunions. Inclusion is part of Roosevelt Park's character, with "The Level Playing Fields" specifically designed for visitors with physical and other special needs. The park also proudly forms part of the East Coast Greenway, that impressive 3,000-mile trail system connecting Maine to Florida.

Dog lovers can bring their four-legged friends along (just remember to keep them leashed). With plenty of parking available, accessing all this greenspace is hassle-free whether you're from Edison or just passing through.
