About the Location

Location and Layout

Audubon Park is a public recreational space located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The park occupies an entire city block, bounded by Kennedy Boulevard to the west, Stegman Street to the south, Audubon Avenue to the north, and Bergen Avenue to the east.

Named after the adjacent Audubon Avenue, which itself is presumed to honor the famous naturalist and painter John James Audubon, the park has been a fixture in the neighborhood for many decades.

Recreational Facilities

In 1988, a local newspaper article described it as "probably the biggest, most congested and most used basketball haven in the city," highlighting its popularity among residents.

Over the years, Audubon Park has undergone various renovations to meet the changing needs of the community. The park now features a mix of recreational facilities, including basketball courts and tennis courts in its central area.

For younger visitors, there is a dedicated playground with equipment suitable for children.

Community Involvement

In 2013, a community group called Friends of Audubon Park (FoAP) was established to work with local residents on revitalizing and maintaining the park.

Their efforts aim to increase the park's value and benefits, allowing residents to maximize its usefulness and enjoyment. The group has organized various events to boost community engagement within the park.
