About the Location
Stunning Skyline Views
Perched in Jersey City's Heights neighborhood, Riverview-Fisk Park offers what might be some of the most impressive views in the entire area. The panoramic vistas sweep across the Manhattan skyline, Hudson River, and even stretch to the Verrazano Bridge. The views are particularly beautiful during sunset or sunrise when the light bathes downtown and midtown Manhattan in golden hues.
A Touch of History
This green space has a rich history behind its views. Dating back to the early 1900s, the park has evolved quite a bit over time. In 1947, it was renamed to honor Captain Clinton E. Fisk, who lost his life fighting in France during 1918.
Take a moment to check out the monuments scattered within the grounds, including one dedicated to World War I veterans from the Heights neighborhood. You'll also find a sculpture of Captain Hudson, adding another historical layer to your visit.
Modern Updates Worth Noting
The park keeps getting better with age. In 2024, the park replaced a patchy grass area with a sleek multi-purpose turf field measuring 130 feet by 87 feet - ideal for impromptu sports games or just stretching out with friends.
The gazebo was rebuilt in 2017 after Hurricane Sandy damaged the previous structure in 2012. The new version includes lighting, storage, and restrooms, and offers an excellent vantage point for viewing the Manhattan skyline.
Interestingly, the gazebo incorporates a bioswale garden that helps manage stormwater runoff and prevents hillside erosion - beauty with a purpose. Later, it was named after Maria Tuzzo, a devoted local resident and volunteer who made real differences in the community.
The park features a rubber-surfaced basketball court for pickup games and a children's playground with slides and swings. During summer months, there's also a splash pad for children to cool off.
Take a Breather
The park has clean paths and well-maintained grassy areas that make it suitable for walking dogs. The central fountain adds a peaceful soundtrack to your visit, and plenty of benches scattered around make it easy to sit and soak in the atmosphere.
One charming touch is the little free library where you can leave a book, take a book, or just browse what others have shared - a small but meaningful way the park brings people together.
Where Community Happens
The park hosts several community activities throughout the year. The farmers market runs every Sunday from 10AM to 2PM during season (typically May through November), offering everything from farm-fresh produce to tempting baked goods.
Music lovers should check out the annual Riverview Jazz Festival or the Wednesday evening summer concerts. The colorful Day of the Dead Parade also makes its way through the park each year, bringing culture and celebration to the space.
Whether you're planning a picnic, looking for a game, or just need some green space, Riverview-Fisk Park is a popular spot for Heights residents and visitors from around Jersey City.
