Positioned in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Netherwood Park is a cherished green space in its namesake neighborhood. Sitting pretty close to the University of New Mexico campus, this park offers a relaxing space for residents in this mostly residential area.

Clean and well-kept, this green space gives neighbors a place to spread out a picnic blanket, toss a frisbee around, or simply enjoy some fresh air.

Nature's Playground

Shade isn't hard to come by here, thanks to the mature trees dotting the landscape - a blessing during those scorching New Mexico summer days. The park features large rolling hills that have earned it the endearing local nickname "pregnant park."

These hills are popular with families. Kids can be found tumbling down the slopes practically year-round, their laughter filling the air. Come winter, when Albuquerque gets a dusting of snow, these same hills transform into natural sledding runs that draw children from all around the neighborhood.

Four-Legged Friends Welcome

Dog owners have particularly taken to Netherwood Park. The open areas provide space for dogs to exercise and play, but do keep in mind that leashes are required per park rules.

You'll find several convenient pet waste stations across the park, complete with bags and disposal bins - making it easy to be a responsible pet parent while keeping the park pleasant for everyone.

Getting There & What to Expect

Managed by the City of Albuquerque's Parks and Recreation Department, Netherwood Park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM. Many locals simply walk over from surrounding homes, which adds to its neighborhood charm.

While you won't find playground equipment or many structured amenities here, the natural landscape offers its own kind of play space. Note that parking can be limited, and there aren't many benches or tables available, so you might want to bring your own blanket or portable chair.

More Than a Park

Netherwood offers a quieter alternative to city life - a more secluded area in Albuquerque's urban landscape. Its elevated position provides good views, making it a nice spot to watch Albuquerque's hot air balloon launches or view celestial events like eclipses.

University students often wander over for a quiet place to study or just breathe between classes. On lucky days, you might even find food trucks parked nearby, turning an ordinary visit into an impromptu community gathering. These features make Netherwood a popular spot among locals.
