About the Location
What You'll Find There
Phil Chacon Park features a beginner-friendly 0.6-mile walking trail (Grade 2 difficulty) that most people can handle without breaking a sweat. You'll appreciate the comfortable 4-8 foot wide asphalt and packed gravel surfaces that make for a pleasant stroll.
Recently renovated, the park now sports several athletic fields surrounded by tree-lined pathways that provide much-needed shade on those sunny New Mexico days. There's also a public art sculpture that adds a nice cultural touch to your park experience.
For the Active Types
Cycling enthusiasts will find one of the largest pump tracks in Albuquerque. Whether you're a beginner or seasoned rider, this track offers plenty of fun challenges.
Dog parents will appreciate the two separate dog parks where your four-legged friends can run free and make new buddies. And if you're into throwing discs, the disc golf course provides an ideal opportunity to practice your aim.
Kid-Friendly Zones
Families with little ones have two great options here. The standard playground comes with shade covering to keep the equipment from turning into a frying pan during hot summer days.
For something a bit different, check out the innovative nature play area where kids can connect with natural elements while having fun - a refreshing alternative to typical playground equipment.
Sports Galore
The renovation included significant improvements to the athletic facilities. Softball players will enjoy fields with 225-foot fences and freshly renovated turf. If basketball or futsal is more your speed, dedicated courts await your next game.
For runners and walkers, the international walk and walking loop provide scenic paths that remain usable year-round - helpful for maintaining an exercise routine in any season.
Community Vibes
Green thumbs might want to check out the community garden and food forest, excellent for connecting with neighbors while growing something good. The park also features a shaded performance area and various cultural art installations scattered throughout.
BMX enthusiasts get their own dedicated bike area separate from the pump track - meaning more options for two-wheeled adventures.
Getting There
You'll discover Phil Chacon Park near the intersection of Louisiana Boulevard SE and Kathryn Avenue SE in Albuquerque. The Cesar Chavez Community Center sits nearby, offering additional facilities and parking options.
No car? No problem. ABQ Ride bus routes #3 and #157 will get you there. The park has multiple entrances, although keep in mind some may occasionally be closed.
