Situated in the South San Pedro neighborhood of Albuquerque, Wilson Park spreads across 3.6 acres of green space. It sits right next to Wilson Pool and Albuquerque Public School's Wilson Middle School, creating a convenient recreational area for the neighborhood.

The heart of the park is its expansive grassy field - fantastic for everything from impromptu frisbee games to afternoon lounging. We like that the entire park is fenced in, which helps parents keep track of their children and gives pet owners a more contained space for their dogs.

Its location next to Wilson Pool is especially convenient during summer months - you can easily make a day of it with playground time followed by a refreshing swim. The pool features a deep section in the middle and offers free admission on Sundays during its summer season.

You can find several picnic tables within the park, with the most coveted ones nestled under the shade trees. Many locals opt to bring blankets instead, creating their own picnic spots on the grass beneath the leafy canopy.

Note that public restrooms are only available when the adjacent pool is open during summer. Outside of pool season, you'll want to plan accordingly as there are no bathroom facilities in the park itself.

Historical Significance

The park honors Captain John Stanton Wilson, an Albuquerque native born on January 11, 1941.

Captain Wilson received his commission through the New Mexico National Guard in 1965, and the park was named in his honor.
