About the Location
Play & Recreation
Located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico along Rockaway Blvd NE, Vista Hills Park is a charming 5.5-acre neighborhood green space that offers a little something for everyone.
Disc golf enthusiasts will appreciate the 9-hole course that winds through the park. Perfect if you're just getting into the sport, the open fairways won't intimidate beginners, but the beautiful mountain views and thoughtful layout keep things interesting enough for regular players too.
If you've got little ones in tow, the modern playground area is designed with children ages 3-8 in mind. It's well-kept and sits right next to open spaces where kids can burn off extra energy when they've had enough of the slides and swings.
Relaxation & Gatherings
One of the nicest features of Vista Hills is its sprawling open grassy areas that practically beg for a picnic blanket or impromptu frisbee game. The grounds are nicely maintained, creating a lush backdrop for whatever outdoor activity suits your mood.
Planning a small gathering? You can find picnic tables scattered throughout, including some under a covered picnic area for those sunny New Mexico days. Several tables are thoughtfully positioned under trees, offering natural shade when you need a break from the sunshine.
And yes, your four-legged friends are welcome here! The park is dog-friendly, but do keep them leashed as you stroll through the grassy landscapes together.
Natural Setting
What gives Vista Hills its name and unique character is its gently rolling terrain. These modest hills might not seem like much most of the year, but they transform into perfect sledding spots when winter brings a blanket of snow.
The park's trees not only provide welcome shade but add to the natural beauty of the space. As you explore, you'll catch glimpses of mountain views in the distance - a reminder of New Mexico's stunning landscape right in the middle of suburbia.
Getting There
You'll come across parking in a small dedicated lot, with additional street parking available along the southern edge of the park. This makes it easily accessible whether you're a local or coming from elsewhere in Rio Rancho.
Note that there are no public restrooms at Vista Hills, which is typical for smaller neighborhood parks like this one.
