About the Location
Riverside Retreat Along the Genesee
Located next to the Genesee River in Rochester, Genesee Gateway Park represents a welcoming entry point to the Genesee Riverway Trail that connects downtown Rochester to the University of Rochester campus.
Found in the charming South Wedge neighborhood, here you'll find picturesque views of Rochester's skyline rising above the flowing Genesee River. It's a fantastic spot to take a moment, breathe in the riverside calm, and soak in those water views that change with the seasons.

A Fresh Face for the Riverfront
The park recently got a well-deserved makeover as part of Rochester's ROC the Riverway initiative - the city's ambitious plan to breathe new life into its waterfront areas. You'll notice the refurbished railings along the river's edge, freshly paved paths, and upgraded amenities that make visits more comfortable.
The landscape has been refreshed with new plantings that enhance the natural feel while improving access to the riverfront. The park's well-maintained grounds and clean atmosphere make for a pleasant visit.

Play, Picnic, and Shoot Hoops
The park features a custom-designed playground that stands out from typical park equipment. With natural wood climbing elements and a forgiving rubber floor, it's thoughtfully designed to welcome children of different ages and abilities.
If basketball is more your thing, the park's full-size court offers a place to shoot around or join a pickup game. When you're ready to refuel, grab a spot at one of the picnic areas where you can enjoy lunch with a side of riverside scenery.
Get on the Water
Perhaps the park's most distinctive feature is its car-top boat launch that makes it easy to drop in a canoe or kayak and explore the Genesee River. It's a wonderful bridge between city living and getting out on the water - no need to drive far from town for a paddling adventure.

Pathways Along the River
The paved paths winding through the park provide smooth terrain for walking, jogging, or taking your dog for some exercise along the river. During winter months, these same paths transform into peaceful routes for snow walks, often with fewer crowds than you'll encounter in warmer seasons.

Good to Know Before You Go
You can find convenient parking available for your visit. The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10:30PM. Note that there are no public restrooms or trash cans in the park, so you might want to plan accordingly.
A Link in Rochester's Green Chain
The park connects to Rochester's network of green spaces and trails, adding to the recreational opportunities and walkability along the Genesee River corridor.
