About the Location

Water Infrastructure

Morningside Heights Park is located in Syracuse, New York, on the city's east side. The site features three water storage tanks that serve as part of Syracuse's water supply system. The reservoir is situated near Syracuse University and the Meadowbrook neighborhood.

In March 2018, one of the water storage tanks experienced a partial roof collapse, temporarily taking it out of service. This incident highlighted the aging infrastructure at the site and the need for ongoing maintenance and upgrades to ensure the continued reliability of Syracuse's water supply.

Recreation Opportunities

While primarily a functional water infrastructure facility, the area around the park has become an unofficial recreational space for local residents. The reservoir is surrounded by grassy areas and some wooded sections, offering a natural setting within the urban environment.

Trail Connections

The Morningside Heights Park area is part of the larger Morningside Cultural Trails network, which includes over 10 miles of walking trails on Syracuse's east side. These trails connect various neighborhoods and highlight cultural, historic, and natural points of interest in the area.
