About the Location
A Neighborhood Retreat
Situated on Park and Chase Avenue in Yonkers, Kinsley Park spans a modest 3.4 acres but packs in plenty of green space for the community to enjoy. This long-standing neighborhood park got some updates in 2022, although we'll be honest - a few spots still show their age and could use a little TLC.
Places to Play
Kids have their own little domain here with a playground featuring the classics: slides, swings, and climbing structures that spark imagination. Just a heads-up though - there's virtually no shade over the play area, so remember the sunscreen on sunny days. The equipment works fine but wouldn't mind a fresh coat of paint and some modernizing touches.
Sports enthusiasts, you've got options! The park houses a baseball diamond for weekend games, basketball courts for pickup matches, and the real highlight - tennis courts that have been completely renovated. These four new courts look fantastic and now double as pickleball courts too (because apparently, pickleball is taking over the world). While the tennis area shines, the basketball courts and baseball field are showing their years but remain perfectly functional for casual games.
Chill-Out Spaces
Not feeling competitive? No problem. The park offers open grassy areas great for lounging with a book or having an impromptu picnic. You'll find several nicely shaded spots that make ideal settings for spreading out a blanket and enjoying some outdoor time.
Benches dot the landscape across the park, giving you places to sit and watch the world go by. Some of the metal picnic tables have seen better days, but a few replacements wouldn't go amiss.
What Else You'll Find
Yes, there are public restrooms - always a plus for any park visit. They're housed in a brick building with separate facilities for everyone, and they're generally kept clean and open during regular park hours.
Dog owners, rejoice! The park is dog-friendly, so your four-legged friends can enjoy some fresh air alongside you.
As one of Yonkers' oldest parks, Kinsley Park remains what it's always been - a gathering place where neighbors connect, kids play, and everyone can enjoy a bit of nature within the city. It may not be the fanciest park around, but it's a pleasant spot for the local community.
