About the Location
Park Overview
Situated in the southern part of Charlotte, North Carolina, Huntingtowne Farms Park spans a comfortable 23 acres of public green space. Just a 20-minute drive from uptown Charlotte, this neighborhood park offers a peaceful atmosphere, clean grounds, and safe environment. It's a good spot where kids can play while you take a break from the city hustle.
Trails and Green Spaces
Wide open fields stretch across the park, suitable for impromptu frisbee games or simply lounging on a blanket with a good book. The paved trails here are actually part of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway network, winding alongside the creek and offering smooth paths for your morning jog, afternoon stroll, or bike ride with the family.
The Greenway connects in two directions from the park - one way toward Tyvola Road and the other toward I-485. This makes Huntingtowne Farms a great jumping-off point if you're planning a longer adventure on the Greenway system.
Recreational Facilities
The park has several well-maintained sports facilities. There's a basketball court for shooting hoops, tennis courts for working on your serve, and a spacious soccer field that's great for both organized games and casual kickarounds.
Pickleball has become quite popular at the park. With four courts available - two of which are dedicated solely to this increasingly popular sport - it's become something of a pickleball hotspot. An added bonus: the courts get nice shade in the afternoons, making them much more bearable during Charlotte's warmer months.
Playground
The playground area features an assortment of slides and swings for different age groups. There are two swings designed specifically for little ones and two for older children that can even support adult weight (yes, parents can swing too!). The equipment is appropriate for children between ages 1-12.
Just a heads up - the playground sits in full sunshine during most daylight hours. On hot summer days, the equipment can get quite warm, so you might want to plan your visits for earlier mornings or evenings.
Amenities
There's a sheltered picnic area with tables suitable for family meals or small gatherings with friends. There's a water fountain conveniently placed near the playground for refilling water bottles after all that running around.
The park includes a community garden where locals grow their own produce, and a solar charging station - useful when your phone battery is running low.
One thing to note - there are no restroom facilities in the park. This is worth keeping in mind if you're planning an extended visit, especially with children.
Dog-Friendly Areas
Four-legged family members are welcome at Huntingtowne Farms Park, but they need to stay on leash. There's a generous open space next to the Greenway and playground where your pup can play fetch or run around. Just remember that this area isn't fenced off from the walking paths, so you'll want to make sure your dog responds well to commands.
Location and Connectivity
The park's location in a residential area makes it a natural gathering spot for the community. If you live nearby, you might find yourself becoming a regular. Its connection to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway is another big plus, linking you to Charlotte's broader network of green spaces. You'll discover plenty of parking available, and the park is easy to locate with GPS - always a relief when you're trying to wrangle kids and gear for a day outdoors.
