About the Location
Park Overview
Situated in High Point, North Carolina, Oak Hollow Festival Park offers a breath of fresh air with its expansive outdoor spaces. It's actually part of something much bigger - the 1,500-acre Oak Hollow Park complex, which cradles the beautiful 800-acre Oak Hollow Lake.
Interestingly, what started as High Point's main water supply has evolved into so much more since opening to the public in 1972. These days, the park offers a peaceful retreat where locals can escape the daily grind, surrounded by lake views and natural beauty.
Location and Views
Festival Park is located right next to the Oak Hollow Lake Dam, with some really nice views of the surrounding area. The scenic lakeside setting creates a great backdrop for family picnics and group gatherings - no wonder it's become a go-to spot for outdoor meetups.
The lake views are quite beautiful, especially at sunset when the light reflects on the water. There's even a wooden deck by the lake where you can sit back, watch boats glide by, or simply lose yourself in the peaceful water scenery.
Facilities and Amenities
Need shelter for your gathering? The park has two shelters that each accommodate up to 80 people, providing shade for picnics and small events. Each comes equipped with grills and electricity - useful for family reunions or birthday celebrations even during hot summer days.
The park also has a dedicated stage area used for outdoor concerts and performances. All year long, the community comes alive here during events like the Uncle Sam Jam on July 4th, the soulful John Coltrane Jazz Festival, and various cultural celebrations that bring people together.
Recreation Areas
If you're bringing little ones, head to the North Overlook area where you can find a modest children's playground featuring a small slide and two infant swings. It's best suited for the under-5 crowd, so plan accordingly if you have older kids in tow.
Scattered within the park are multiple picnic areas - some covered, others open-air - with several tables positioned for perfect lake views. There's also plenty of open grassy space where you can spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or even fly a kite when the breeze is just right.
Pet-Friendly Features
Oak Hollow Festival Park is dog-friendly with plenty of space for your pets to explore. Just remember to clean up after your pets to keep the park beautiful for everyone.
Keep in mind that during special events and festivals, the usual pet policies might change, so it's worth checking the specific event guidelines before bringing Fido along.
Restrooms and Accessibility
You'll find clean restroom facilities throughout the park - always a plus for longer visits. While most areas are accessible, it's worth noting that some visitors have mentioned challenges with stroller and wheelchair access in certain sections of the park.
Hours and Accessibility
The park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 5:45PM. Its versatile setting makes it ideal for community gatherings, family outings, or simply a peaceful afternoon in nature.
One thing to note - despite the tempting shoreline and water platform, fishing isn't allowed in this particular section of Oak Hollow. Don't worry though - if you're keen to cast a line, you'll come across plenty of fishing spots in other areas of the larger Oak Hollow Park complex.
