Park History
Clark Field Park is a 50-acre public park located in Cleveland, Ohio, situated at the divide between the Tremont neighborhood and the Industrial Valley. The park has a rich history dating back to the early 1950s when the City of Cleveland allocated $75,000 to build a football stadium and two baseball diamonds on the site.
Over the years, Clark Field Park experienced periods of decline and neglect, but community efforts led to its revitalization. In 2001, local residents formed the Friends of Clark Field organization to clean up the park and restore its recreational activities.
Renovations and Improvements
The park underwent significant improvements, including tree planting, the addition of a basketball court, and the installation of picnic tables and benches.
In recent years, Clark Field Park has undergone major renovations and environmental remediation. The U.S. EPA conducted a $5.5 million cleanup of the site, removing contaminated soil and replacing it with clean fill. This process was completed in late 2020, paving the way for further improvements.
Trail Development and Connectivity
The Cleveland Metroparks is constructing a section of the Towpath Trail that will run along the western and northern borders of Clark Field Park, enhancing connectivity to the surrounding areas.
This trail will provide car-free access to the park, integrating it more closely with the Tremont neighborhood.
Sports Facilities
As part of ongoing development, the Cleveland Guardians Charities have created a championship synthetic ballfield within Clark Field Park, named "Jose Ramirez Field" after the Cleveland Guardians' third baseman.
This new facility serves as the home field for the Lincoln-West High School baseball team and the Cleveland Guardians Nike RBI baseball teams.
