Chandler Park
About Chandler Park
Location and Overview
Perched on a bluff overlooking the Arkansas River, Chandler Park spans 192 acres of public green space in west Tulsa, Oklahoma. This space offers panoramic views of both Tulsa and Sand Springs that are quite impressive.
With its mix of wooded areas, fascinating rock formations, and open spaces, it's easily one of the most scenic spots you'll find in the Tulsa area.
History
The park's story began in 1958 when Claude Chandler donated the land. What started as a simple green space has transformed over the decades into a recreational destination with a variety of amenities.
Today's Chandler Park blends its natural charm with modern amenities that cater to all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts and community activities.
Trails and Nature
The extensive network of hiking and nature trails winds through wooded areas and rock formations. These paths are ideal for a casual stroll or a more purposeful hike.
Adventure seekers can try their hand at rock climbing on the limestone bluffs and cliffs scattered throughout the park. Just keep in mind that while some trails are well-maintained, others might test your navigation skills with limited markings.
Disc golf enthusiasts, you're in luck! The park houses two complete 18-hole disc golf courses with a nice mix of wooded areas and open fields to challenge players of different skill levels.
Family Attractions
Kids have plenty of options with multiple playgrounds across the park. Beyond the newer modern equipment, there's a unique parkour-style playground that seems to be a hit with the younger crowd.
The crown jewel for families has to be the massive 9,250 square foot splash pad. With jet streams, geysers, water cannons, and multiple water slides of varying heights, it's a cool oasis on hot Oklahoma days. It operates in 1.5-hour sessions and costs just $1 per person - quite possibly the best dollar you'll spend all summer. It's received recognition for its impressive facilities.
Sports Facilities
Active types can take advantage of several sports facilities, including baseball fields and outdoor basketball courts for pickup games.
The park's state-of-the-art community center houses a fitness center and a full-court gymnasium. You'll also find various programs and classes hosted here year-round, along with community events and gatherings.
Picnic Areas
There are several shaded picnic tables and covered pavilions available for rent. These areas come equipped with grills and amenities that make outdoor meals a breeze.
The park's abundant shaded areas provide comfortable retreats from the Oklahoma sun, great for relaxing or gathering with family and friends.
Dog-Friendly Features
Four-legged friends are welcome around the park, although they'll need to stay on leash. While there isn't a designated dog park or fenced area, the open spaces and trails provide plenty of room for you and your pup to explore together.
The park's expansive layout means you'll never feel cramped when walking your dog, making it a favorite spot for local pet owners.
Regardless of whether you're looking to connect with nature, get active, or simply find a peaceful spot to unwind, Chandler Park combines natural beauty with recreational facilities in a versatile outdoor space.
