About the Location

Location and Overview

Chandler Park is a 192-acre public park located in west Tulsa, Oklahoma. Situated on a bluff overlooking the Arkansas River, the park offers panoramic views of Tulsa and Sand Springs.

The park features a diverse landscape of wooded areas, unique rock formations, and open spaces that make it one of the most scenic parks in the Tulsa area.

History

Originally donated by Claude Chandler in 1958, Chandler Park has evolved from a simple picnic area into a multifaceted recreational destination.

The park's natural beauty is complemented by a range of modern amenities and facilities designed to cater to various outdoor activities and community needs.

Trails and Nature

One of the park's main attractions is its extensive network of hiking and nature trails that wind through the wooded areas and rock formations.

These trails provide opportunities for hiking, nature observation, and rock climbing. While some trails are well-maintained, others may be more challenging with limited markings. The limestone bluffs and cliffs throughout the park offer unique geological features to explore.

The park is also home to two 18-hole disc golf courses, catering to enthusiasts of this growing sport. The courses offer a mix of wooded areas and open fields, providing different levels of challenge.

Family Attractions

For families and children, Chandler Park offers multiple playgrounds scattered throughout the park, including newer modern equipment and a unique parkour-style playground that children particularly enjoy.

A highlight for families is the 9,250 square foot splash pad featuring jet streams, geysers, water cannons, and multiple water slides of varying heights. The splash pad operates in 1.5-hour sessions and costs $1 per person. This water feature is especially popular during hot summer months and has been recognized as one of the best splash pads in America.

Sports Facilities

The park includes several sports facilities, such as baseball fields and outdoor basketball courts.

A state-of-the-art community center within the park grounds houses a fitness center, a full-court gymnasium, and hosts various programs and classes. The center also hosts events and gatherings.

Picnic Areas

Chandler Park is a popular location for picnics and gatherings, offering several shaded picnic tables and covered pavilions available for rent.

These areas are equipped with grills and other amenities to facilitate outdoor meals and events. The park's many shaded areas provide comfortable spaces for relaxation and family get-togethers.

Dog-Friendly Features

The park welcomes dogs on leashes throughout its grounds. While there is no designated dog park or fenced area, the open spaces and trails make it an excellent place for walking dogs.

Many visitors appreciate that the park's expansive layout provides ample room for pets to explore while keeping them on leash.

The park's natural features, combined with its recreational facilities, make it a versatile outdoor space that caters to a wide range of interests and activities, from quiet nature appreciation to active sports and community events.
