About the Location
Natural Setting
Hawkins Heights Park is a 7.92-acre undeveloped neighborhood park located at the intersection of Hawkins Lane and Highland Oaks Drive in Eugene, Oregon. Purchased in the late 1970s, this park features a sloping site that offers visitors a natural, wooded environment.
The terrain includes remnants of an old orchard, as well as native oak, ash, and fir trees, creating a diverse ecosystem within an urban setting.
Recreation Opportunities
The park contains a quarter-mile looped jogging path, providing an opportunity for light exercise and leisurely walks. As an undeveloped park, Hawkins Heights maintains a more natural state, making it suitable for activities such as nature observation, casual hiking, and quiet contemplation.
Historical Significance
Historically significant, Hawkins Heights Park is situated very close to the site where the first Renaissance Faire was held in 1969, an event that was a direct precursor to the well-known Oregon Country Fair. This connection adds a layer of cultural interest to the park's natural appeal.
