About the Location
A Slice of Farming Heritage
Positioned in the corner of Genrosa Street and 69th Avenue, Dobbin Park pays homage to a farmer who once tilled this very soil. This little green space reflects the agricultural history of the area as part of the Reed's Crossing community.
The "Barn Park" Playground
Locals have affectionately nicknamed this spot "Barn Park" - and it's easy to see why. The playground's centerpiece is a charming red barn-like play structure that nods to the area's farming roots while inviting kids to explore and imagine.
This play area is well-suited for school-aged children (5-12), featuring various climbing challenges including two fire poles that little ones can slide down. There's a classic slide for the speed-seekers and a swingset offering both bucket swings for the tiny tots and regular swings for bigger kids.
Massive climbing blocks stand ready for adventurous climbers on one side of the playground. While everything is relatively new and well-kept, just keep in mind that if you're bringing really little ones, they might need some help navigating features designed with older kids in mind.
Natural Beauty
The park features a 200-year-old oak tree, spreading its branches to create a shady retreat. Standing beneath this living piece of history, you can almost feel the stories it could tell about the land's transformation over two centuries.
A cement walking path encircles the park, providing a track where kids can ride bikes and scooters while staying in your line of sight. For those wanting to stretch their legs further, the path connects to the nearby Greenway, opening up longer strolling options.
What's Available
You can find two picnic tables where you can enjoy an outdoor lunch or snack, with one strategically placed near the oak tree for some welcome summer shade. Benches are scattered throughout to rest weary legs, and trash cans make it easy to keep the space tidy.
Note that there are no restroom facilities here - it's primarily designed as a neighborhood park for quick visits from nearby homes.
Community Connection
Though modest in size, Dobbin Park represents an important gathering spot for Reed's Crossing residents. It's a place where neighborhood kids can burn off energy, where parents can chat while keeping an eye on little ones, and where everyone can enjoy a bit of outdoor time just steps from home.
With its clean, well-maintained grounds, this park particularly shines as a family-friendly space. The design connects past and present - acknowledging agricultural heritage while providing a place to play and meet neighbors.
