Wissinoming Park

Historic Origins

Wissinoming Park is a public green space located in the Wissinoming neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The park covers approximately 41 acres and has been a part of the community since 1913 when the city purchased the land from Thomas and Indiana Tansey.

Originally part of the estate of Robert Cornelius, a chemist and early photographer, the park retains some of the natural beauty from its past. Cornelius had planted over 4,000 trees on his property, many of which were rare specimens.

Natural Features

While not all of the original plantings survive, the park still boasts a diverse array of mature trees that provide shade and habitat for local wildlife.

The layout of the park includes both active recreational areas and more passive, natural spaces for relaxation and enjoyment of the outdoors.
