Trails and Connectivity

This location features a 1.7 mile paved bike and walking trail connecting Millvale to Pittsburgh's North Shore. It's part of the larger Three Rivers Heritage Trail system, which is pretty impressive.

The trail curves lazily along the river, past Herr's Island, and links up with other segments leading to Pittsburgh hotspots like PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium. Many folks use this park as their launchpad for longer rides, thanks to the flat, level path that stretches toward downtown and beyond to the Ohio River.

Scenic Views and Recreation

The views of the Allegheny River here are quite nice, and the direct access to the waterfront is a definite plus. Many people use this as a starting point for biking, walking, and running along the riverfront trail.

Beyond the trail, you can find green spaces great for just chilling out. The spacious grassy area is ideal for relaxing with a book, playing fetch with your four-legged friend, or simply soaking in those riverside vibes. Note that much of the trail is fairly open with limited shade, but you can find a few trees offering respite from the summer sun when needed.

Fishing enthusiasts will appreciate that This park is a bit of a hidden treasure for catching fish, with a designated fishing area near the boat launch and several spots you can reach by venturing through the brush on the upper side of the park. Word has it the catches here can be quite good.

The marina accommodates larger boats with its boat slips, while the kayak/canoe launch makes getting your paddle craft into the water a breeze. When the weather warms up, the easy river access transforms this park into a hub for all sorts of water adventures.

Facilities and Amenities

The park has a large pavilion with a kitchen that's available for rent. It's suitable for family reunions, graduation celebrations, or community get-togethers. There are even power outlets in the pavilion - always a practical plus.

You'll find public restrooms in a permanent building attached to the pavilion. They're kept in decent shape - about as clean as you can expect for an outdoor public space.

Playground and Family Features

There's a unique green playground made with natural materials, featuring swings and some elements reminiscent of a skate park. We appreciate how the playground's design complements the natural surroundings instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.

Families tend to enjoy the balanced mix of playground fun, open space, and peaceful river scenery. There are picnic tables scattered along the riverfront too, offering extra spots to relax or enjoy a packed lunch beyond the main pavilion area.

Dog owners have definitely claimed this park as one of their favorites. The flat riverside trail and expansive grassy area make for perfect walks with your furry companions. Dog waste bags are provided (thank goodness), and there's plenty of room for leashed pets to get some exercise and fresh air.

The park offers free parking in a generously sized lot. If you're driving in to hit the trails or enjoy the park's amenities, parking is refreshingly hassle-free. Cyclists and runners particularly value this easy access when using the park as a starting point for longer adventures.

All year long, the park comes alive with community events, including festivals like "Cold Cuts" and outdoor concerts that bring locals together. Its location is pretty strategic too - less than half a mile from Millvale's business district via the trail. Recently, a food truck park has been drawing crowds, offering tasty food, cold beer, and live music at reasonable prices.
