What's now a grassy gathering spot was once part of Charleston's tidal marshland before being filled during the city's expansion. The curious name "Horse Lot" apparently emerged sometime in the mid-20th century, but nobody seems quite sure why - one of those small mysteries that adds to Charleston's charm.

Don't expect sprawling grounds here - Horse Lot Park is decidedly cozy. Still, it delivers on the essentials with a simple grassy area shaded by several mature trees that provide welcome relief on hot South Carolina days.
