Dupont Park

Location and History

Found in Hixson, one of Chattanooga's northern suburbs, Dupont Park sits just about 15 minutes from downtown. It's located directly across Chickamauga Lake from Tennessee River Park, behind the Chickamauga Dam.

There's a bit of industrial heritage here too. The land was originally set aside by the DuPont corporation for public use after they built their massive manufacturing plant back in the 1940s during Chattanooga's industrial boom. Today, it's transformed into a favorite recreational spot for locals looking to escape the urban bustle.

Natural Environment

Dupont Park features a blend of wide open spaces and wooded areas that offer different experiences depending on where you wander. Its proximity to Chickamauga Lake adds scenic views for those looking to spend time in nature.

The park's spacious layout features plenty of shade trees, which come in particularly handy during those hot Tennessee summers. The wooded sections provide quiet spots that make for pleasant walks.

Disc Golf

For disc golf enthusiasts, Dupont Park offers two distinct courses: The Sinks and The Narrows.

The Sinks winds through the woods and offers some technical challenges that'll keep you on your toes. With two tee pads per hole and multiple basket locations, it caters to everyone from first-timers to seasoned pros.

Feeling more adventurous? The Narrows course is slightly longer with some challenging rough areas that'll make you pay for straying off the fairway. There's even a disc golf driving range complete with yard markers and practice baskets - great for working on that technique before hitting the main courses.

Recreational Facilities

Beyond disc golf, you'll come across several soccer fields that regularly host local games and tournaments. Just a heads up - field 4B has a slight downhill slope near one of the goals, which can add an unexpected twist to your game.

The park also boasts volleyball courts and basketball courts for those looking to spike or shoot some hoops. And if organized sports aren't your thing, there's plenty of open space to toss a frisbee, kick a ball around, or just spread out a blanket and relax.

Amenities

Scattered across the grounds are several picnic areas with tables and shady spots for when you need a break. For larger gatherings, check out the covered shelter area with picnic tables - it's meant for family reunions or birthday celebrations.

Feeling hungry? The grilling area includes a fireplace where you can cook up some outdoor treats. It's a nice spot for outdoor cooking.

As for facilities, the park offers portable toilets that are maintained regularly. They do the job, but they sometimes might benefit from more frequent attention during busy periods.

Pet Policy

Good news for dog lovers - the park is dog-friendly! You'll see plenty of folks walking their four-legged friends here. There are waste bag stations and garbage cans throughout, making it easy to clean up after your pet. Just remember to keep your dog leashed for everyone's safety and enjoyment.
