About Melton Hill Park

Waterfront Escape

Situated in northwest Knox County, Tennessee, Melton Hill Park (or Stoney Point, as the locals might call it) is one of those hidden spots that makes you wonder why you don't spend more time outdoors. Perched along the shores of Melton Hill Lake, this 100+ acre sanctuary offers an ideal blend of peaceful nature and recreational fun.

The park's diverse landscape unfolds like a choose-your-own-adventure book - open fields for tossing a frisbee, wooded areas for seeking shade, and waterfront access that gives you front-row seats to the Clinch River. The scenery here transforms with the seasons, each offering its own version of Tennessee beauty.

Hit the Trails

Feel like stretching your legs? You've got options. There are over 3 miles of natural trails winding through the woods where you can reconnect with nature at your own pace. Just a heads-up - some trails can get a bit wild and overgrown during peak growing seasons (Mother Nature doing her thing).

If you prefer something more predictable underfoot, the paved greenway offers a smooth journey with minimal hills, good for casual strolls, morning jogs, or family bike rides. The relatively flat terrain means it's accessible for everyone, including those with strollers or wheelchairs, all while serving up those calming riverside views.

Water Adventures

A highlight of Melton Hill Park is its lake access. With two boat ramps and a dock, getting your watercraft into the lake is a breeze. Regardless of whether you're casting lines for fish or just cruising around, the lake offers plenty of space to do your thing.

More of a shore-dweller? There's a fishing pier available, however bank fishing spots aren't super abundant. While there is a beach area, swimming isn't officially permitted anymore due to safety concerns. That said, kayaking has become increasingly popular, especially if you paddle beyond the busier launch areas to find those tranquil pockets of water all to yourself.

Family Fun Central

Packing a picnic is practically mandatory here. The large covered pavilion comes equipped with tables and a grill, comfortably fitting up to 25 people - fantastic for those birthday celebrations or family reunions that have been too long postponed.

Kids getting restless? Let them burn off energy at the new playground that's recently been added. Nearby meadows offer plenty of space for impromptu games, and the sand volleyball court next to the pavilion adds another option for active visitors.

Perfect for Photos and Wildlife Watching

If you're looking to refresh your social media profile or capture some family memories, this place won't disappoint. Photographers flock here especially during fall when the trees put on their colorful show. The mix of water, woods, and open spaces creates natural backdrops that make everyone look good.

Patience might reward you with wildlife sightings throughout the park. For the best chances at spotting the local fauna, try visiting during quieter periods outside the busy summer season (Memorial Day through Labor Day).

Good to Know

Four-legged friends are welcome here! The park is dog-friendly with plenty of paths for walks. Just remember to keep them leashed and be the responsible pet owner everyone appreciates.

As for facilities, the park offers portable toilets that are kept in decent condition. Parking is usually a non-issue on weekdays, but weekend warriors might find themselves hunting for spots during summer months or prime photography seasons.

With its stunning views of the lake, river, and surrounding landscape, Melton Hill Park is a pleasant outdoor destination for Knoxville locals and visitors. The lake views and natural setting offer a nice glimpse of Tennessee's outdoor spaces.
