About the Location

Riverside Views that Will Take Your Breath Away

Located atop the fourth Chickasaw Bluff in downtown Memphis, Fourth Bluff Park offers views of the Mississippi River. From here, you can see the river and the Memphis Bridge - the bridge lights at night create a nice view.

The park has gone through quite a transformation in recent years. Previously known as Confederate Park and then Memphis Park, it's been redesigned and renamed as part of a broader riverfront revitalization effort. Its downtown location makes it super easy to reach whether you're a local or just passing through.

What You'll Find There

Spanning about three acres, Fourth Bluff Park offers a quiet space away from downtown activity. You can stroll along paved walking trails, relax on benches, or spread out a blanket on the open grassy areas.

Within the park, you'll discover tables, chairs, and bleachers excellent for hanging out or having a bite to eat. The elevated position provides good panoramic views of the river and beyond.

There's a portable toilet available, but it's not always in the best condition. And keep an eye out for the park's resident bold squirrels - these little characters aren't shy about making their presence known!

A Piece of Memphis History

This spot carries historical significance as part of the original public land set aside by Memphis founders on the river bluffs. It's seen many changes over the decades.

In its most recent chapter, the park was reimagined to create a more welcoming space for everyone in the community. This included removing certain monuments and giving it a name that reflects its geographic location rather than its historical associations.

What's Happening at the Bluff

Today, the park comes alive with community events during the year. You can catch concerts, festivals, and even fitness classes if you time your visit right. The food events are particularly noteworthy, with excellent culinary offerings during special occasions.

During basketball season, it transforms into a hotspot for Memphis Grizzlies watch parties where fans gather to cheer on the team. The laid-back atmosphere makes Fourth Bluff great for family gatherings and picnics too, with a clean, safe environment that everyone can enjoy.

Exploring Beyond the Park

One of the great things about Fourth Bluff is how connected it is to everything else downtown. The trolley line runs just below the park, making it easy to hop on and explore other parts of the city.

If you're driving, you can find street parking on nearby roads like Jefferson Avenue - a nice money-saver compared to paid parking options. And having a police station nearby adds an extra layer of security that helps everyone feel at ease.
