About Oakwood Park in Nashville
Oakwood Park is a 26-acre public park located in Nashville, Tennessee. Established in 1983, the park offers a scenic urban green space with one of the city's most impressive views of downtown Nashville from its hilly terrain.
The park's landscape features a mix of open areas and wooded sections, including a collection of natural hardwood forest that has been preserved within the urban core. A primitive trail was developed on the eastern slope, leading to the top of the hill where it connects with existing trails, creating a one-mile loop suitable for hiking, biking, and dog walking (with leashes required).
In 2019, Oakwood Park underwent significant renovations to improve its facilities and accessibility. These improvements were part of an effort to transform the park's reputation and make it more family-friendly. The renovation project was carried out by a local, minority-owned business, reflecting the city's commitment to community involvement and diversity in public works projects.
The park serves the surrounding Shephardwood communities and has become an important recreational space for both long-time residents and newcomers to the area. It provides a balance of natural beauty and urban amenities, offering opportunities for various outdoor activities and community gatherings.
