About the Location

A Historic Green Retreat

Sevier Park is a public green space located in the 12 South neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. The park spans approximately 20.5 acres and has been a part of the community since 1948.

It offers residents and visitors a retreat from the bustling urban environment.

Historic Sunnyside Mansion

At the heart of Sevier Park stands Sunnyside, a historic antebellum mansion built around 1852. The house, which blends Italianate and Greek Revival architectural styles, serves as a focal point of the park and houses the Metropolitan Historical Commission and Metropolitan Historic Zoning Commission.

The property has a rich history, having witnessed events such as the Battle of Nashville during the Civil War.

Recreational Amenities

The park provides a variety of recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages. A walking path loops through the grounds, allowing for leisurely strolls or more vigorous exercise.

The expansive lawn areas are ideal for picnics, casual gatherings, or simply relaxing in nature. Families with children can enjoy the playground facilities, which offer a safe and fun environment for young visitors.

Community Growth

Sevier Park has evolved over the years to meet the changing needs of the community. In 1954, a swimming pool was added to enhance summer recreational options, though it is no longer present.

The park saw further development in 1963 with the construction of a community center, which has since been replaced by a newer facility opened in 2014. This modern community center includes various amenities that serve the local population with fitness and educational programs.

Neighborhood Hub

The park's location in the 12 South area makes it a central feature of this vibrant Nashville neighborhood. It provides a green oasis amidst the area's popular shops, restaurants, and residential streets.

Sevier Park contributes to the community's quality of life and serves as a gathering place for local events and everyday enjoyment.
