About the Location
Historic Roots
Liberia Park's history dates back to the early 20th century when it was established to serve the African American community during the era of segregation. In 1927, a swimming pool was built in Liberia Park specifically for Black residents of Beaumont, as they were not allowed to use other public pools at the time.
This pool remained a central hub for the Black community even after desegregation, until it was eventually torn down in 1981.
Play Areas
The park features both a regular playground and a water playground, providing diverse play options for children of different ages.
While the original swimming pool is no longer present, the addition of a water playground provides a modern alternative for children to cool off and enjoy water-based activities during hot Texas summers. The regular playground equipment offers additional opportunities for physical activity and imaginative play.
Amenities
Liberia Park offers shelter and covered picnic areas, making it an ideal spot for family outings and community events.
Its location in the southern part of Beaumont makes it easily accessible to nearby residents. Today, Liberia Park continues to serve the local community as a space for outdoor recreation and gatherings.
