About the Location

A Glimpse into the Past

Before becoming the serene space we know today, Brison Park was called Dexter Park. In 1980, it was renamed to honor Fred Brison, who not only served as Mayor Pro Tem of College Station from 1971-1974 but also dedicated 43 years of his life to Texas A&M's Department of Horticultural Sciences. A significant contribution to the community.

Nature's Canvas

Located in the heart of the city, this park offers a woodsy escape that feels miles away from urban life. A seasonal stream meanders through the grounds, creating a peaceful soundtrack to your visit and supporting the local ecosystem.

Tree enthusiasts (or just those who appreciate good shade) will enjoy the magnificent oak trees within the park. There's one grand oak in particular that's especially notable - you'll know it when you see it.

Get Moving or Just Unwind

Need to stretch your legs? The park features a 1/3-mile nature trail that weaves through the natural landscape. It's ideal for a mindful stroll, a quick jog, or for wildlife spotting - bring those binoculars if you're into birdwatching!

While you won't find designated picnic tables, the park offers something more authentic - scattered benches and plenty of grassy areas under sprawling tree canopies that are great for spreading out a blanket and enjoying an impromptu picnic. Sometimes simplicity really is best.

A Place of Remembrance

Brison Park holds a special place in the community's heart beyond its natural beauty. Around the perimeter, lamp posts and individual markers stand in solemn tribute to the 12 victims of the 1999 Texas Aggie Bonfire tragedy. These memorials transform the park into both a recreational space and also a place for reflection and remembrance.

Before You Visit

Just a couple of things to note before heading out: parking is limited to roadside spots, so you might want to visit during off-peak hours. Also, there aren't any restrooms on site, so plan your visit accordingly.
