Recent Improvements

January 2024 brought some exciting changes to this community space when the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department wrapped up a $400,000 development project. The makeover included a brand-new dog park and upgraded playground equipment.

Perhaps the most talked-about addition is the dog park section, which thoughtfully separates the play areas for small dogs and large dogs. This secure, gated space allows dogs to play off-leash. With this addition, Sherwood Park joins the ranks as the city's third official dog park, alongside Bill Witt Dog Park and Vishal Bhagat Dog Park at The Water's Edge.

Dog Park Features

The canine corner of Sherwood Park comes equipped with various amenities to keep your furry friends engaged and happy. It's generally not packed with visitors, creating a laid-back atmosphere where dogs can socialize. Both sections offer activities and equipment for the dogs.

There's a drinking fountain inside the fenced area for thirsty pups, however on particularly scorching Texas days, you might want to bring your own water supply as fountain availability can be hit-or-miss. One thing to note: the dog park currently doesn't offer much shade, which is worth considering when planning summer visits.

Recreation Facilities

Beyond the dog area, you'll find a baseball field complete with a backstop that's great for impromptu family practice sessions. On any given afternoon, you might spot local parents pitching balls to eager young sluggers, creating those classic childhood memories.

For the little ones, there's a playground area featuring swings and other play equipment. While it does the job, the playground feels like it could use a bit more TLC to really shine for the neighborhood kids.
