About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away in Fort Worth, Texas, Leonard Park offers 6.5 acres of green space in a quiet residential area. Originally set aside for a school in the Ridgmar Addition, the land found its true calling when the Fort Worth Park Department scooped it up in 1983.
Despite its modest size, the park has a tranquil atmosphere, suitable for a quick stroll, exercise, or simply relaxing on a sunny afternoon.
History & Namesake
Behind the name stands a power couple of Fort Worth's past - Marvin Leonard (1895-1970) and his wife Mary Leonard (1907-1995). Marvin wasn't just any businessman; alongside his brother O.P., he built Leonard Brothers into Fort Worth's retail giant.
Mary complemented her husband's business prowess with her heart for service, pouring herself into community involvement and volunteer work throughout her life.
Amenities & Features
The playground area got a fresh face in 2005, when renovations swept through with new equipment replacing the old. While the playground looks modern and clean, you'll want to time your visits strategically - shade comes mainly from the surrounding trees rather than built structures.
You'll come across drinking fountains to quench your thirst and benches scattered throughout when your legs need a break. The walking trails offer pleasant routes to stretch your legs, with some rewarding views as you head downhill.
A charming remnant of the past stands in the form of a backstop that predates the park itself - a little nod to history amid the greenery.
Community Value
Leonard Park serves the neighborhood as a place where locals gather and children play.
The peaceful atmosphere and well-maintained grounds are appreciated by the surrounding Fort Worth neighborhoods. While not the largest park in the area, its quiet charm makes it a nice local spot.
