About the Location
A Touch of Fort Worth History
Situated on Eastland Street, this 13.9-acre green space bears the name of William "Gooseneck Bill" McDonald, a trailblazing African American businessman and political figure who made his mark on Fort Worth in the early 1900s. Established in 1981 and nestled against Interstate 820, this park has been quietly serving the local community for over four decades.
Freshening Up the Space
The park got a nice facelift in 2003 when its playground areas were renovated. This wasn't just a small touch-up - the improvements were funded by the U.S. Department of Interior Urban Park and Recreation Recovery grant and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Development Block Grant funds.
What to Do When You Visit
Whether you're looking to break a sweat or just enjoy some fresh air, William McDonald Park offers several options. The open green spaces are ideal for throwing a frisbee or spreading out a picnic blanket on a sunny afternoon.
If you've got kids in tow, the playground area with its swings and slides will definitely keep them entertained. Sports fans aren't left out either - shoot some hoops at the basketball court, play a game on the baseball field, or kick a ball around the soccer field.
The Little Details
Planning a family gathering? The covered picnic area offers a shady spot to enjoy food and conversation, protected from both sun and surprise showers. It's an ideal spot for those weekend family reunions or birthday celebrations.
The walking trail winds through the park, well-suited for your morning jog or an evening stroll to clear your head after a long day. Just note that there aren't any restroom facilities available, so you might want to plan accordingly before spending the day here.
