About the Location
Park History
Nestled along Parkwood Boulevard in Frisco, Texas, Kathy Seei Park is a green oasis in the midst of city life. Though locals might remember it as Central Park, it received a meaningful rename in 2024 to honor Kathy Seei, Frisco's former mayor who served from 1996 to 2002 and left an indelible mark on the city's growth and development.
Unique Design
Covering 8 acres of land, this park has a clever design trick up its sleeve - when viewed from above, it takes the shape of a longhorn's head, with Parkwood Boulevard creating the horns. It's these thoughtful touches that give the park its distinct Texas character.
You'll discover the park perfectly positioned for easy access, whether you're a Frisco resident or staying at one of the nearby hotels. The hustle and bustle of the city fades away once you step onto the grounds.
Public Art
The main highlight of the park is the "Shawnee Trail Cattle Drive" - a bronze sculpture installation by artist Anita Pauwels. Completed in 2003, these larger-than-life pieces depict cowboys on horseback herding longhorns, capturing a touch of Texas history in frozen motion.
As you wander through the installation, you'll notice thoughtful quotations engraved on steps around the park - little nuggets of cowboy wisdom that connect you to the region's heritage. It's like taking a walkable history lesson about the famous cattle drives that once passed through this area.
The sculptures make for a fantastic photography backdrop, which is why you'll often spot families, high school seniors, and even wedding parties posing among the bronze cowboys and longhorns.
Natural Features
The park's small pond teems with fish, while a running brook with gentle waterfalls creates a soundtrack of tranquility. Sitting near the water features, you can enjoy the calming sound of flowing water.
Mature trees dot the landscape, casting welcome shade that makes even summer visits comfortable. The natural springs and maintained grounds offer a quiet space away from the surrounding city.
Recreation Opportunities
If you're looking to get some steps in, the paved walking trails wind through the park like ribbons, offering a smooth surface for strolls, jogs, or pushing a stroller. The paths are well-maintained and suitable for a quick lunchtime walk or a leisurely weekend stroll.
You'll come across benches placed at just the right intervals along the paths - perfect spots to catch your breath or simply sit and take in the scenery. While there aren't designated picnic tables, the grassy areas and benches make for lovely impromptu picnic spots, whether you prefer sun or shade.
Dog parents, rejoice! The park welcomes your leashed four-legged friends, making it a popular spot for daily dog walks. While there's no formal playground equipment, the open grassy areas provide plenty of space for kids to run around and burn off energy.
The Amphitheater
Tucked within the park is a charming amphitheater with a grassy pavilion area. This understated venue hosts the occasional small performance or gathering, adding a cultural dimension to this already versatile green space.
Hours and Location
Kathy Seei Park opens daily from 8AM to 10PM. Its central Frisco location makes it an ideal spot to squeeze in some nature time, even on busy days.
Note that there are no public restrooms within the park, but nearby restaurants can come to the rescue if needed. What makes this park special is its peaceful atmosphere - it's not trying to be the biggest or most feature-packed park, but rather a tranquil escape where you can clear your head and reconnect with nature, even if just for a few minutes.
