About the Location
Park Overview
Tucked away behind a row of businesses, Lou Huff Park is one of those hidden treasures you might miss if you're not looking. This 14-acre neighborhood park in Garland, Texas has a little something for everyone - a quiet escape from city life with various amenities to enjoy.
Sports Facilities
The park features a spacious softball field complete with a backstop that doubles as a baseball field when needed. The lights around the field mean your game doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.
The outfield is wonderfully versatile - ideal for impromptu soccer or football games with friends. Just remember to bring your own equipment, as goals and bases aren't provided at the park.
If ball sports are more your thing, you'll appreciate the basketball court and tennis court. Nothing beats shooting hoops or playing a casual tennis match on a beautiful Texas afternoon.
Playground Area
The playground received a makeover in October 2021. Spanning 7,500 square feet with safety-conscious rubberized surfacing, this colorful play space is popular with local families.
The playground includes a zipline course that appeals to both kids and adults. There's also a classic swing set, a thrilling slide, an old-school seesaw, and interactive musical instrument and learning wall panels to engage curious minds.
One of the playground's notable features is the large global motion spinner. It's no wonder longtime Garland residents who played here as children now bring their own kids to enjoy the upgraded equipment.
Park History
There's something special about visiting a place with history. Named after Lou (Lula) Huff around the 1950s, this park once housed the first-ever recreation center in Garland. While the Lou Huff Recreation Center is no longer operating, you can feel a sense of community heritage as you walk the grounds.
Amenities
The park has plenty of open space for flying kites, tossing frisbees, or simply lounging on a blanket with a good book. There's convenient parking available, and the open areas make for some pretty nice photo backgrounds if you're looking to update your social media.
Pet Information
The park is dog-friendly, so you can bring your pets along. Just remember to bring those waste bags and keep your pup leashed as needed.
