About the Location
Natural Escape Near the City
Found on the western shore of Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie, Texas, Loyd Park spans a generous 791 acres of natural beauty. You can immerse yourself in nature while still being within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The tree-filled landscape creates a peaceful atmosphere that feels miles away from city life. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife - they're frequent visitors here too!
The park maintains a refreshingly clean environment with well-kept grounds. It's great for those days when you need a nature fix but don't have time for a long road trip.
Rest Your Head Under the Stars
With over 220 campsites scattered within the park, you've got options. Many sites offer lovely views of the lake or are nestled under the shade of mature trees. Each spacious site (around 1,000 square feet) comes with the essentials: a picnic table, covered pavilion, grill, and fire ring. Most provide water and electrical hookups too.
Whether you're pitching a tent, parking an RV, or looking for something more comfortable, Loyd Park offers options for all preferences. The lakefront cabins are particularly nice if roughing it isn't your style. RV enthusiasts will find most sites offer 30-amp service with water hookups, while some provide 50-amp service. Note that while individual sites don't have sewer hookups, convenient dump stations are located near the park exit.
Get Moving or Just Relax
The recreation options at Loyd Park cater to both adventure-seekers and relaxation-lovers. Take a dip at the beach area (though it may close temporarily after heavy rainfall), cast a line from the shore or pier, or launch your boat from the four-lane boat ramp. The fishing here is particularly good, with bass being a common catch.
If you prefer to stay on dry land, explore approximately 6 miles of multi-use trails that wind through the park. These well-maintained paths are great for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, and some are even smooth enough for strollers.
Comfort and Convenience
Clean restroom and shower facilities are strategically placed throughout the camping areas, so you're never too far from modern comforts. Families appreciate the playground that keeps younger visitors entertained, and the volleyball courts offer a fun way to get some group activity going.
Near the entrance, you'll find a small convenience store stocking camping essentials, ice, and fishing supplies. Just remember the store keeps limited hours, so it's best to plan your needs in advance.
Gather the Group
Planning a family reunion or team-building event? The park features group camping areas and a lodge that can host larger gatherings. These spaces make Loyd Park an excellent choice for bringing people together in a natural setting.
What makes Loyd Park especially appealing is its central location within the DFW area. You can escape into nature and still be back in the city for dinner if you wanted to - though with all the park has to offer, you might just want to stay longer.
