About the Location
The Man Behind Las Colinas
Positioned on the westbound side of Highway 114 at Riverside Drive, Founder's Park might be small, but it packs a meaningful punch. This urban oasis pays homage to Ben H. Carpenter, the forward-thinking mind who brought Las Colinas - Irving's planned community - to life.
At the heart of the park stands the Carpenter Monument, an impressive larger-than-life sculpture crafted by Robert Glen. If that name sounds familiar, it's because Glen is the artistic genius behind the Mustangs of Las Colinas, which happens to be the largest equestrian sculpture on the planet.
Art That Tells a Story
As you wander through the park, you'll spot elegant marble statues of cattle that honor the ranching roots of Las Colinas. These beautiful pieces were a generous gift from the Trammell Crow Company in 1999, adding both visual interest and historical depth to the space.
Around the grounds, you'll discover several plaques dedicated to prominent local citizens that tell the story of Irving's evolution and the people who helped shape it into what it is today.
A Moment of Urban Calm
Founder's Park offers a tranquil retreat for anyone looking to take a breather from the hustle and bustle. Its convenient location along Highway 114 makes it an easy stop whether you're a local or just passing through.
The lovely green space provides a wonderful setting for stretching your legs or enjoying a quick picnic surrounded by bits of history and art. Note that while the park offers many amenities, fishing isn't allowed here.
