About Morris Sensory Playground

From Empty Field to Community Treasure

Tucked between Morris Middle School and Dr. Perez Elementary School in McAllen, Texas, Morris Sensory Playground is transforming what was once just a simple grassy field owned by the school district into something special. This evolving green space sits between the two schools, connecting them and giving the area a new purpose.

Taking Shape Step by Step

In 2021, the McAllen City Commission gave the green light to partner with the local school district, setting Morris Playground's development in motion. The city has chosen a phased approach to developing the playground.

So far, the first phase has wrapped up, bringing a walking trail to the space - a simple but meaningful addition that's already enhancing what was previously just an open field.

What's on the Horizon

This is just the beginning for Morris Sensory Playground. McAllen has plans to expand the park's offerings with various amenities in the coming phases. Future plans aim to transform this space into a more comprehensive recreational area where local residents can gather, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors as the playground continues to develop.
