About the Location
Park Overview
Found in McKinney, Texas, Mary Will Craig Park spans a cozy 10 acres as a neighborhood retreat. First opening its doors in 1998, the park got a complete makeover in 2023 that breathed new life into its design and amenities. The 2023 renovation introduced modern features and more options for play and relaxation.
Trails and Pathways
A full looped concrete trail winds through the park along Bois D'Arc Rd and Dowell Street, meant for walking, jogging, or biking. Positioned north of the open play areas, the trail lets you get your steps in while keeping an eye on kids playing in the fields below.
This same path also curves around the west side of the baseball diamond, which is fully fenced for players of all ages. Many park-goers enjoy taking laps on the track while their little ones are engaged in nearby activities.
Recreational Facilities
The park shines with its barrier-free playground and asphalt track, making fun accessible to everyone. The playground area comes equipped with climbing structures, swings, and an old-school merry-go-round that kids of different ages seem to love. Parents will appreciate how the walking track encircles the playground, making it easy to multitask - exercise for you, playtime for them.
Sprinkled around the park, you'll find outdoor workout equipment near the playground, a dedicated skate spot, and ground games for additional entertainment options.
Sports Amenities
Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten at Mary Will Craig Park. The grounds feature a full baseball diamond, a basketball court, and open turf areas that double as practice soccer fields.
Though compact, the skate park packs in a good mix of ramps, rails, and boxes for skateboarding and roller skating adventures. Note that according to the posted rules, this area is exclusively for skateboarders and roller skaters.
You can also enjoy amenities like swings and a picnic shelter that operates on a first-come, first-served basis - no reservations needed.
Visitor Accommodations
Thoughtfully designed shaded seating areas and benches dot the landscape, including spots near the playground and baseball field. Several picnic tables are available, with some nestled in the shaded pavilion right next to the playground.
For now, the park offers an ADA-compliant portable restroom rather than permanent facilities. There's also a notable absence of water fountains, so you'll want to bring your own water bottle, especially on warm days.
With 16 parking spaces available, Mary Will Craig Park is located near Slaughter Elementary School, making it convenient for students and staff. Parking might get tight during peak times, but the diverse amenities accommodate families and visitors of all ages.
