About the Location

Explore the Trails

Comanche Trail South Park stretches like a green ribbon through Odessa, from the west entrance at 900 S County Road W to the south entrance at 301 Interstate 20 Service Road. The blend of natural areas and facilities makes it a good spot for outdoor activities.

Wander & Wonder

The park's 3.2-mile paved trail winds through the property, meant for those morning jogs, leisurely walks, or bike rides you've been meaning to take. The path meanders through wooded areas, ducks under I-20, and eventually loops around a spacious fishing pond that's home to sunfish and, if you're lucky enough to visit after a stocking day, some trout too.

This pond attracts local wildlife as well as visitors. Ducks and geese paddle about in the water, creating a peaceful scene that's relaxing to watch. The shaded paths around the water offer a much-needed break from that intense West Texas sun, and if you keep your eyes peeled, you might spot frogs, the occasional snake, or any number of bird species going about their day.

Disc Golf Haven

If you're into disc golf, you're in for a treat. The park features three distinct courses with a total of 21 holes that are popular among disc golf enthusiasts. The course layout cleverly uses both open meadows and tree-dotted areas, extending into more rustic terrain that offers just the right level of challenge whether you're a beginner or seasoned player.

Take a Break

When you need to refuel, you can find covered pavilions with picnic tables scattered throughout the park. These shaded areas are good for family gatherings or having a meal with a view of the pond. Each area has trash cans nearby, so keeping this natural space beautiful is easy.

The park also connects to McKinney Park, where you can access additional amenities like sports courts and restrooms if needed.

Good to Know

The park welcomes visitors from 6AM to 11PM daily, but you might want to plan your visit during daylight hours, as some areas can feel a bit isolated after dark.

While bathroom facilities exist, they're not always in the best shape - sometimes clean, sometimes not so much. If you're planning an extended visit, it might be wise to come prepared. You'll come across parking spaces near the restrooms and pavilions, however spots can fill up on busy days.
