About the Location
Play & Sports Areas
When you need a place to kick a soccer ball around or practice your sports skills, Westwood Park offers an athletic practice field. Baseball enthusiasts will appreciate the baseball field that's open for community use. Court sports more your thing? There's a basketball court surrounded by plenty of open space meant for casual lawn games like cornhole. Just a heads up - some of the rims and nets have seen better days.
The playground area is popular with neighborhood families and offers plenty for children to enjoy. Kids can swing to their heart's content on the swings, challenge themselves on the monkey bars, or conquer various climbing structures designed with different age groups in mind.
Getting Your Steps In
For those days when you're feeling active but not necessarily sporty, the park's hike and bike trail stretches about 0.3 miles through the grounds. Regardless of whether you're walking the dog, going for a jog, or taking a leisurely bike ride, the trail accommodates it all. The paved paths also work well for rollerblades and scooters if wheels are more your style.
The landscape here offers a nice balance - open sunny spaces for those vitamin D days, and wooded sections when you need a break from the Texas heat. Keep an eye out for the interesting horse apple tree that drops its distinctive fruits - local kids love collecting them as part of their playground adventures.
Rest & Relaxation Spots
Need a shaded spot for lunch? The park's pavilion comes equipped with tables where you can enjoy a meal or host a small gathering. You'll find a water fountain conveniently placed near the gazebo for when you need to hydrate.
Throughout the park, you'll discover picnic tables, comfortable benches, and grills scattered in strategic spots. These setups are excellent for impromptu barbecues or planned outings, positioned so you can relax while still keeping an eye on kids playing nearby.
Where to Park
Getting to all this goodness is straightforward with the park's dedicated parking lot. Just make sure to use the designated parking spots or stick to the east side of the park - the west side has some parking restrictions you'll want to avoid.
