About the Location
Natural Setting
Tucked away at the meeting point of Alazan and Martinez Creeks, Farias Park offers a refreshing touch of nature within San Antonio's urban landscape. It's a surprisingly peaceful spot with pleasant views and a calm atmosphere, especially if you drop by during the day.
Recreational Spaces
Outdoor recreation is the name of the game here, with options available year-round. Basketball enthusiasts will appreciate the two fully shaded courts that are kept in good condition. For more open-air activities, there's space to fly kites or just run around and enjoy the outdoors.
Kid-Friendly Play Area
Little ones have their own space to burn energy at the clean, well-maintained playground. The equipment is in good shape, featuring four swings that actually work (parents, you know how rare that can be), including two specially designed for toddlers. It's a hit with local families and gives kids a safe place to play and explore.
Places to Relax and Gather
Need a break? You'll find seating scattered throughout the grounds. Shaded areas provide welcome relief on those hot Texas days. If you're planning to make a day of it, you can find picnic tables and a dedicated grilling area great for outdoor meals with family or friends.
Artistic Touches
What makes Farias Park stand out is the striking public art installation called "Bloom" created by local San Antonio artist Leticia Huerta. These aren't your average park decorations - they're oversized wildflower sculptures with clever details that resemble bicycle parts, inspired by trail users and native plants from the area.
Look for the Four Nerve Daisy and Salvia Texana sculptures while you're here. The rest of the "Bloom" flower collection is sprinkled along the Howard Peak Green Way Trail System throughout San Antonio, making this park part of a larger artistic journey through the city.
Practical Matters
When nature calls, there is a portable toilet available, but its cleanliness can be hit or miss. Honestly, this is one area where the park could use some improvement.
Good to Know
Like other city parks, alcohol isn't allowed here, and you should follow the standard park rules for everyone's safety and enjoyment. The park welcomes visitors daily from 8AM to 11PM.
