About the Location

A Historic Haven of Green

Stretching along the Jordan River in Salt Lake City, Jordan Park has been providing a breath of fresh air to locals and visitors alike since 1918. Spanning 33.5 acres at the corner of 900 West and 1000 South, this verdant retreat offers a wonderful escape from city life without actually leaving the city.

With its grassy expanses and accessible location, it's a nice place to spread out a blanket, take a deep breath, and relax for a while.

International Peace Gardens: A World Tour in Your Backyard

The International Peace Gardens are one of Salt Lake's less-known attractions worth checking out. Founded in 1939 and officially dedicated in 1952, these gardens showcase the cultural essence and plant life from 28 different countries - offering a taste of global landscaping traditions in one location.

Spring and summer transform the gardens into a riot of colors as flowers reach full bloom. Each country's section tells its own story through plants, architecture, and art. You'll find yourself crossing artistic bridges, admiring cultural displays, and even learning about troll mythology (a particularly fun stop if you've got kids in tow).

These gardens make for great photos and offer a peaceful spot to enjoy nature's beauty.

Recreation for Everyone

Feel like being active? Jordan Park offers plenty of options. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the softball fields or check out the somewhat unique bike polo court. Since 2001, skateboarders have been catching air at the skate park that replaced the former swimming pool and bathhouse.

For families, there are at least three separate playgrounds scattered across the park, featuring swings and climbing equipment suitable for different age groups.

Dog parents, rejoice! The northwest corner houses a fenced off-leash dog park complete with canine water fountains where your four-legged friends can run, play, and make new buddies while you chat with fellow dog lovers.

Gathering Spaces That Bring People Together

Jordan Park seems designed for togetherness. The park features several pavilions that can be reserved for events, with two large ones perfectly suited for family reunions, birthday celebrations, or community gatherings. Many come equipped with BBQ grills and electrical outlets - practical touches that make outdoor entertaining easier.

Picnic tables dot the landscape, offering plenty of spots to enjoy anything from a simple sandwich to an elaborate outdoor feast.

Note that public restrooms are typically open seasonally, from around Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Part of Something Bigger: The Jordan River Parkway

What makes this park even more special is its connection to the Jordan River Parkway system. Step onto the well-maintained paved pathways and you're linked to a network of trails that wind along the river - Salt Lake City's green artery.

No matter if you're up for a casual stroll, a morning jog, or a bike ride, these trails accommodate all paces and ages. Cyclists particularly appreciate Jordan Park as a launching point for exploring the Jordan River Trail and its connections to the broader Golden Spike Trail network.

Community in Action

The park comes alive during the year with community events that bring people together. Sunday mornings often feature a seasonal Farmers Market, while cultural festivals, recovery support gatherings, and even drone light shows (an innovative alternative to traditional fireworks) fill the calendar.

With its generous open spaces and pavilions, there's room for everyone - vendors, activities, and community members connecting under Utah's big sky.
