About the Location

Accessible Design

Tucked away within Tonaquint Park at 1851 S. Dixie Drive in St. George, Utah, Thunder Junction All Abilities Park is a wonderful example of inclusive recreation. This thoughtfully designed space welcomes everyone with wheelchair-friendly equipment and accessible surfaces throughout. What really sets it apart? The inclusion of adult changing tables in the restrooms and numerous play structures with wheelchair ramps - small details that make a huge difference for visitors of all abilities.

Dinosaur Theme and Volcano

The park features a prehistoric theme throughout. The park embraces a dinosaur theme throughout its attractions, with the showstopper being an impressive "erupting" volcano that periodically puffs smoke and fills the air with rumbling dinosaur and lava sounds. Need a break from the sun? Duck inside the volcano where you can find picnic tables in the cool shade - a clever and much-appreciated refuge on those scorching Utah days.

Train Ride Experience

All aboard! The park's C.P. Huntington 1/4-scale train chugs along a 2,700-foot track, taking you on a delightful journey around the grounds. You'll pass through tunnels and cross over bridges during this scenic ride. At just $2 per person, it's an affordable 8-15 minute adventure. The conductors, often dressed in traditional uniforms, sometimes let little ones ring the train bell.

Inclusive Playground

The playground area features a durable, soft surface that makes wheelchair navigation a breeze. You can find an array of accessible equipment including slides, swings, and climbing structures designed with different abilities in mind. Kids particularly love the zip lines with specialized seating options and the spinning equipment that provides wonderful sensory experiences for children of all abilities.

Water and Music Features

When temperatures rise, the splash pad area becomes the park's hotspot. Water drips from dinosaur fossil replicas and flows over red rocks, creating a prehistoric oasis. The waterfall that you can walk under provides welcome relief during St. George's summer heat.

For the musically inclined, there's a dedicated music area featuring bells, xylophones, and drums where you can create your own outdoor symphony. If you're feeling adventurous, test your skills on the climbing wall for some added physical challenge.

Facilities and Amenities

Practical needs aren't overlooked here. You'll find clean restrooms with family facilities and those essential adult changing tables. Multiple pavilions with picnic tables offer shaded respite when you need a breather or lunch break. There's even a small concession stand with reasonably priced snacks and drinks when hunger strikes. Parents can relax a bit knowing the entire park is fenced with a single entrance, adding an extra layer of security for families with curious little explorers.

Admission Information

Here's the best part - the park is free to enter and enjoy! The train ride is the only attraction with a fee. Keep in mind that train operation times vary with the seasons, typically running from 9am-12pm and again from 4pm during warmer months. When the mercury climbs above 105°F, expect limited operation. It's worth checking current schedules before your visit to avoid disappointment.

One important note: dogs are not allowed in the park, with the exception of service animals.
