About the Location
History and Origin
Cal Anderson Park is a public park located in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The park spans 7.37 acres and includes both the Lincoln Reservoir and Bobby Morris Playfield. Originally named Lincoln Park when it was first designed in 1904, it was later renamed in honor of Cal Anderson, Washington's first openly gay state legislator.

Renovation and Design
The park underwent significant renovations in the early 2000s, during which the reservoir was lidded, adding four acres of usable park space. A central feature of the park is its water elements, including a reflecting pool and fountain designed to maintain the presence of water that historically defined the site.
The park also incorporates elements of its history, preserving the reservoir's Gatehouse, portions of the old reservoir's parapet wall, and the central arc of hedge maples.
Amenities and Features
Cal Anderson Park serves as a hub for the densely populated Capitol Hill area, offering a variety of recreational opportunities and green space. The park's design accommodates diverse uses, balancing historic preservation with modern amenities.
It includes walking paths, open lawns, sports facilities, and areas for community gatherings.

Cultural Significance
The park has played a significant role in Seattle's social and political landscape. In 2020, it became a focal point during protests, temporarily being part of the area known as the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) or Capitol Hill Occupied Protest (CHOP).
Location and Access
Cal Anderson Park is accessible via public transit, with an entrance to the Capitol Hill light rail station located at its northwest corner. The park is open daily from 4AM to 11:30PM and is maintained by Seattle Parks and Recreation.
