About the Location
Breathtaking Views
Perched at the top of the Magnolia Bridge, this compact 2.4-acre space offers some of the most spectacular panoramas you'll find in Seattle. From here, you can take in sweeping views of downtown Seattle, the bustling waters of Elliott Bay, Pier 91, majestic Mount Rainier, and the rugged Cascade Mountains.
It's a tranquil spot to escape the city buzz while ironically admiring it from afar. On clear days, seeing Mount Rainier rising behind the Seattle skyline offers a reminder of the Pacific Northwest's natural beauty.
If you're a fan of golden hour, you're in luck. The viewpoint is particularly impressive at sunset and sunrise, when the changing light transforms the cityscape. Pro tip: walk to the center of the bridge from the parking lot for the absolute best vantage point.
Park Features
The viewpoint isn't fancy, but that's part of its charm. You can find a small knoll dotted with trees providing a quiet retreat to sit and soak in the views. There are grassy areas offering welcome shade on sunny days, but be prepared for some steep terrain.
Photography enthusiasts flock here for frame-worthy shots of Seattle's distinctive skyline. If you time it right, you might catch massive cruise ships docked at the nearby terminal, adding an interesting element to your photos or simply your viewing pleasure.
Just note that this is a no-frills kind of place - you won't find picnic tables or playgrounds here. There's sometimes a portable toilet available, but don't count on it.
Access and Amenities
Getting here is straightforward, with a small but adequate parking lot for visitors. The park welcomes early birds and night owls alike, opening daily from 4AM to 11:30PM.
It's worth mentioning that over the years, tree growth has partially obscured some of the once-unobstructed views. You'll notice a chain-link fence at some viewing spots, but there are plenty of gaps ideal for capturing fence-free photos.
This spot is really all about the views rather than recreation - ideal for a brief stop to appreciate Seattle's beauty from afar. Given the busy road nearby, you might want to keep your four-legged friends on a leash if you bring them along.
Historical Significance
Behind the name is a story of local dedication. The park honors Ursula Judkins, a passionate Magnolia community activist whose work made lasting impacts on the neighborhood.
Judkins wasn't one to shy away from local issues - she worked tirelessly to reduce impacts from the West Point sewage-treatment plant, tackled railroad noise problems in Interbay, and stood up for the preservation of Discovery Park.
Future Improvements
Exciting changes may be on the horizon for this hidden viewpoint. In recent years, efforts have been underway to revitalize the space.
A concept plan has been developed that includes upgrades to the parking area, a new walking path, enhanced overlook areas, and restored meadows with better management of invasive species.
