About the Location

A Bit of History

Set in north Spokane, Franklin Park sprawls across 42.7 acres of community green space. Dating back to the early 1900s, with most of the grading and planting taking place between 1910 and 1912, this park has been a neighborhood space for over a century. With a perimeter of about one mile, it's well-suited for your morning jog or an evening stroll.

Sports Galore

Athletes and sports enthusiasts will feel right at home here. The park has a five-plex softball complex with multiple well-maintained baseball/softball fields complete with spectator stands - popular for youth leagues and tournaments throughout the season. Soccer players can stretch their legs on the dedicated soccer fields, while those looking for a pickup game can head to the basketball courts. There's even horseshoe pits for those who prefer a more leisurely competitive activity.

Kid-Friendly Fun

Got little ones? Franklin Park has plenty of options. The playground area features equipment for children of all ages, from toddler-friendly swings to challenging climbing structures that'll keep older kids entertained. During summer months, kids love the splash pad water feature with its multiple sprayers and popular bucket tree that fills up and dumps water - a refreshing escape from those hot Spokane summer days.

Natural Beauty

Paved walking paths meander through grassy expanses dotted with mature trees, offering plenty of shade on sunny days. Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to read or space for a family picnic, you'll find it here. Speaking of picnics, there are several tables available within the park and a reservable picnic shelter if you're planning a larger gathering. The pavilions and BBQ areas make this an ideal spot for family reunions or birthday celebrations.

Practical Stuff

The park includes restroom facilities, but be aware they might occasionally be locked. Not to worry - portable toilets are typically available as a backup. You'll come across parking lots on the north, west, and south sides of the park, but keep in mind that spaces can fill up quickly during popular events or peak hours.

Wildlife & Pets

Keep your eyes peeled for the park's resident squirrels bouncing around - they're a delight to watch for visitors of all ages. Dog owners, you're welcome to bring your leashed four-legged friends for some exercise and fresh air in the open spaces.

Community Hub

Franklin Park is an important recreational anchor for the surrounding neighborhoods. Its convenient location near Northtown Mall and variety of amenities make it a go-to destination year-round. Summer brings a lively atmosphere to the park, with organized sports events, family gatherings, and children enjoying the splash pad.
