About the Location
A Woodland Retreat
Situated in University Place, Washington, Paradise Pond Park offers 9.5 acres of natural escape right beside Morrison Pond. It's an ideal spot when you need a quick nature fix without leaving the city behind.
What makes this park special is its wonderfully undeveloped character. There's something refreshing about experiencing this little pocket of native ecosystem just as it is, without all the bells and whistles of more manicured parks. Sure, you're technically near houses and a busy street, but step onto the trails and suddenly the urban world fades away - it's just you and the trees.
Wander and Wonder
The park's network of well-maintained walking trails winds through the woods, giving you plenty of space to stroll without bumping into fellow nature-lovers. The paths are wide and clearly marked, making for easy navigation even if you're not exactly wilderness-savvy.
One of the highlights is the park's connection to Morrison Pond (also called Paradise Pond by locals). While you can't access the water from every part of the park, the pond's presence adds a tranquil backdrop and attracts all sorts of critters to the area.
As you explore, you'll come across educational sign posts that tell you about the plants and animals calling this place home. Don't be surprised if the trail system feels bigger than expected - there are more twists and turns here than you might guess from the outside.
Take a Break
Need a rest or brought a snack? You'll find picnic tables scattered off the main paths where you can take a load off. There are also benches across the park for when you just want to sit and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
Just a heads up - there aren't any restrooms here, so plan accordingly. Trash cans are also limited, so you'll want to take your wrappers and leftovers with you when you leave.
Things to Do
This little woodland haven is excellent for bird watching or nature photography if that's your thing. It's also ideal for simply sitting quietly and enjoying a moment of calm away from screens and noise.
You can bring your four-legged friends along too - the park is dog-friendly, just keep them leashed as the signs request, and remember to clean up after them.
Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings, including the occasional snake. The park is also surprisingly rich in mycology - fancy word for mushrooms and fungi - which adds a touch of magic, especially after rain.
A word to the wise: trails can get muddy and slippery during wet weather, so wear appropriate shoes. And in summer, you might want to bring mosquito repellent to keep the bugs at bay.
