About the Location
A Park with a Purpose
Originally established in 1992 as Celebration Park, this green space was renamed in 2009 to honor Ryan Hade, a young boy who was tragically attacked here in 1989. The renaming stands as a memorial and reflects how the community reclaimed this space, transforming it from a site of tragedy into a peaceful neighborhood area.
Finding Your Way
Tucked away behind residential streets, Ryan's Park feels like a serene area. Houses border three sides, while a sprawling green belt creates a natural boundary on the fourth. One of the park's most charming features is the bubbling creek that meanders through the grounds, adding a soundtrack of gentle flowing water to your visit.
The landscape is dominated by large open grassy areas that seem to invite impromptu games of frisbee or afternoon picnics. As you wander the paved walkways alongside the creek, you'll get to experience the park's natural beauty up close.
What's There to Do?
The walking paths weaving through the grass make for perfect morning strolls or casual evening walks. If you're bringing kids along, they'll appreciate the newer playground with its modern equipment and swings - a great spot for little ones to burn off energy.
If you want to enjoy a meal outdoors, you'll find a paved area with picnic tables. The generous open space also works wonderfully for tossing a ball around, flying RC planes (just make sure you have proper permission), or simply spreading out a blanket for a classic picnic on the grass.
Before You Go
Parking can be a bit tight at the main entrance, but there's a workaround - try accessing the park via a short trail that connects to another housing area with more parking options. The park rarely gets crowded, so you'll likely enjoy a peaceful experience whenever you visit.
Just remember that there are no public restrooms available, so plan accordingly.
More Than a Park
Ryan's Park holds special significance as a community space. Dog owners particularly value the expansive areas where their four-legged friends can stretch their legs and play.
Recent improvements, including trail cleanup and brush clearing, show the ongoing care this memorial space receives. The park reflects the community's commitment to creating a safe, welcoming space despite its challenging history.
